Trusting God When Life Doesn’t Make Sense
Life Lesson 40: Every season of life presents its own challenges. As believers, it can sometimes be difficult during these times to focus our attention completely on the Lord. A difficult situation can easily distract and rob us of peace. When we focus on the all-knowing God who understands where we are, knows about the hurt, the pain, the disappointment, and the struggle we are dealing with, He comes alongside us to carry the burden and lead us in the right direction.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (Provers 3:5-6)
Meditate on that Scripture for a minute and think about what it means to you. How does it affect the way you see God, and how can you apply this truth to your current circumstance?
Whatever you are facing in your life right now, Scripture assures us that God is trustworthy. Whether it’s a job loss, a relationship issue, an addiction, illness, the death of a loved one, financial, mental, emotional, or spiritual challenges, God can be trusted. What you are going through right now may not make any sense and you can’t begin to comprehend why a sovereign God would allow this trial to come into your life. Perhaps you have been a follower of Jesus for a long time or maybe you recently came to faith in Christ, and suddenly life gives you a blow you never expected. It is tempting to get discouraged during this time, even angry and resentful, which is understandable, but remember, when you put your faith and trust in God, He equips you to face the giants in your life. When we are anxious, confused or in doubt, God understands and He welcomes us into His holy presence where we will find peace that passes all understanding, rest for our souls, and the grace to handle our trials.
Learning to trust God in the uncertainties of life will help us walk through the dark valleys with hope and the assurance that everything will work out for our good and for God’s glory (Romans 8:28). Life and people may disappoint us. But there is One who will never fail us. Trust Him and do not try to figure it out on your own. Submit your worries and cares to Him and rest assured that He will guide you on the right path for your life.
I truly believe that discouraging moments are here to teach us something about ourselves and draw us closer to God. When life throws you a curveball, remember to stand on God’s perfect promises. I figured, that since God is all-wise and all-powerful, He would never have allowed the trial in my life if He did not have a plan to see me through it. I’m often reminded of what Jesus told His disciples in John 16:33: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” This is such a remarkable Scripture. Let us today hold firm to God’s truth, knowing that He is trustworthy and He is with us to see us through the darkest valley.
